Though instant ramen noodles provide iron, B vitamins and manganese, they lack fiber, protein and other crucial vitamins and minerals. Additionally, their MSG, TBHQ and high sodium contents may negatively affect health, such as by increasing your risk of heart disease, stomach cancer and metabolic syndrome.
The term “instant” in this context implies ready to be eaten in a matter of minutes as opposed to waiting for regular noodle to be prepared and eaten. (i) Boil the water, add seasoning packet, drop in noodles, and stir take only minutes.
Instant noodles usually have flavorings with them and come in a packet or cup of some kind. Normal noodles are sold similarly to pasta. ALso, normal noodles have to be cooked in a pot with boiling water for maybe 3-4 minutes (depending on the noodle) whereas instant noodles just need some boiled water poured over them.
The main ingredients in instant noodles are flour, starch, water, salt and/or kansui (かん水), a type of alkaline mineral water containing sodium carbonate and usually potassium carbonate, and sometimes a small amount of phosphoric acid.
While instant ramen is not bad for you, it isn't recommended as a single food daily or multiple times per day on its own due to its high-sodium flavoring packet or broth. Adding additional toppings, such as protein and vegetables, to the wheat noodle and broth base can increase its nutrition profile.
