Garlic-Herb Linguine

FAQ

If you laid a strand of spaghetti on a cutting board and used your tiny rolling pin to flatten it, you would have linguine. Translating to little tongues in Italian, linguine noodles are mostly flat with a whisper of a curve (similar to the shape of a tongue).
While linguine is stronger and heartier, spaghetti is more delicate and best served with lighter sauces. A heavy Alfredo would overwhelm a plate of spaghetti, so we opt for lighter sauces like carbonara and marinara so the pasta can shine.
Probably associated most famously with white clam sauce (vongole), linguine actually holds onto sauces better than spaghetti due to its flat curvature. This curious attribute grants linguine an overall better eating experience in that it carries more flavor into each bite.
Linguine (“little tongues” in Italian) is a sort of long dried pasta, like a spaghetti flattened into an elliptical shape.
Etymology. Linguine comes from the Latin word lingua, meaning 'tongue'. The modern language closest to Latin is Italian, and the Italian word linguine, plural of the feminine linguina, means 'little tongues'.
