Growing up in Japan, I have fond memories of cooking up some instant noodles when home alone, stopping by a ramen shop with friends after junior high school baseball practice, and slurping down a tasty bowl after a night of drinking.
It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles (中華麺, chūkamen) served in a broth; common flavors are soy sauce and miso, with typical toppings including sliced pork (chāshū), nori (dried seaweed), menma (bamboo shoots), and scallions. Ramen has its roots in Chinese noodle dishes and is a part of Japanese Chinese cuisine.
The Korean equivalent of ramen (presuming you're talking about the Japanese version) is 라면.
